Sending files via WeTransfer just got a whole lot easier! The sharing platform is getting a new feature, Save for Later, which lets you extend the expiration date of a file download link by up to 30 days.

“Sorry, this transfer has expired and is no longer available”. If you use WeTransfer to share or receive files, you have certainly already come across this message one day after having delayed a bit to download a file. Indeed, until now, the links generated for a transfer had a lifespan of seven days with the free version, which regularly forced you to ask your contact to resend the document. It seems that the WeTransfer teams have finally realized that this limit was annoying. This is why they announced, in a blog postthe launch of a new option, called “Save for Later” – which allows you to extend the expiration date of a download link by up to 30 days. This is excellent news that should save us a lot of frustration!

WeTransfer: an option to avoid link expiration

This new feature allows, as its name suggests, to save a transfer for later, by extending its expiration date up to 30 days, “which gives you more time to preview or download on your mobile device or send to yourself to access your desktop computer,” explains WeTransfer. “Whether you’re on the go or pressed for time, you can access your transfers whenever you need them.”

This extension is however conditional on the use of the mobile application of the sharing service. A way to easily attract new users, by dangling a much more flexible download window in front of them. But even if it is reserved for smartphones, it will still be possible to send a file to access it from a computer. Be careful, this change only concerns the free formula, which limits sending to 2 GB for each transfer. Indeed, the expiration dates in paid subscriptions are already customizable.
