There is worrying news about the spread of the Monkeypox (mpox) virus. In Argentina, authorities have quarantined a cargo ship on the Parana River on suspicion of carrying the M pox (mpox) virus.
In a statement made by the Argentine Ministry of Health, it was stated that the Liberian-flagged ship was about to go from the Brazilian city of Santos to the Port of San Lorenzo in Argentina.
“CYST-LIKE SKIN LESIONS WERE SEEN ON HIS FACE”
The statement said that during the voyage, the crew received a warning that “an Indian national on board had cyst-like skin lesions, mostly on his chest and face.”
CARGO SHIP QUARANTINED
The statement said that the person showing symptoms of M smallpox was isolated from the rest of the crew, and that the cargo ship was therefore quarantined by anchoring in the Parana River.
WHAT KIND OF VIRUS IS MONKEYPOX?
According to the World Health Organization, M pox virus is a viral disease caused by the “M-pox” virus, which belongs to the virus family Poxviridae and the genus Orthopoxvirus.
Common symptoms of the disease include high fever, headache, back and muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, chills, shivering and chickenpox-like blisters on the skin.
M pox virus is transmitted from rodents, such as mice and squirrels, or from infected individuals.
Touching body rashes caused by the virus, using contaminated clothing, sheets, towels and similar items, and coming into contact with body fluids are among the most important causes of transmission.
