Gamescom 2024 starts with a bang: Borderlands 4 has been announced. And the trailer was immediately well received.
The very first trailer of gamescom 2024 is a sensation: Borderlands 4 has been announced. The giant emblem of Lilith tears through the darkness of space. A moon breaks into pieces, comets hit the surface and in a burning crater lies it: the mask of a psycho. The trademark of the Borderlands series.
Immediately afterwards comes the confirmation: The huge lettering announces the title Borderlands 4. So it is officially the next part of the main series, not a spin-off like Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
On top of that, there was also the release period: Borderlands 4 will be released in 2025. So the wait is not forever.

gamescom audience is up for a good Borderlands
This is how the trailer was received: “The audience went crazy when Borderlands 4 was shown,” writes our editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski live from the ONL. A good sign after the recently released film based on the exterminator saga was savaged in the reviews and was not well received by fans of the series either.

What the game will ultimately contain remains to be seen. The trailer doesn’t reveal much, and no further information is known yet.
One thing is clear: fans can hope for a game that really plays to the strengths of the series. Borderlands 3 was praised for its gameplay, but failed to win over many fans in terms of story and characters – something that Borderlands 2 did much better.

What’s next at gamescom? Borderlands 4 opened the ONL, which in turn opens the gamescom. More exciting trailers and announcements can be expected here.
