On day 4, Gigi Birofio is chosen by his fellow competitor Elena Miras to take part in the jungle test. The Italian is highly motivated when Sonja Zietlow and Jan Köppen explain the task ahead to him. Gigi has to go through a supermarket, only in a jungle version. The shopping list does not include milk, eggs and bread.
Gigi has to “buy” live animals like crocodiles, frogs and crabs.
One by one, he has to load a certain number of the animals into small wooden cages and transport them over the uneven jungle floor using a shopping cart. But even though Gigi is particularly careful and cautious towards the creatures, the spectators are annoyed by the test.

On Instagram, fans vent their displeasure about the test and make it clear what they think of the task. “I always ask myself why they have to do all this to the animals” and “What animal cruelty,” users give their harsh verdict.
I find it reprehensible to subject these animals to this stress. I’m not a vegan or a do-gooder but my common sense tells me that I think it’s stupid for the animal to have its mouth tied shut.
Another user is worried that Gigi might not be able to handle the animals properly.
I still don’t think the stress for the animals is good and what if Gigi drops the animals out of fear and they get hurt?
Many viewers would watch the show even without animals, because there is enough scary stuff.

Since August 16, the anniversary season of the jungle camp has been running on RTL under the name “I’m a Star – Showdown of the Jungle Legends”. A new episode is broadcast daily at 8:15 p.m. Each episode can be streamed one day in advance on RTL+. The new season includes a total of 17 episodes.
