DRC: the MPOX epidemic continues to progress in the Goma region in the east of the country

DRC the MPOX epidemic continues to progress in the Goma

In eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the MPOX epidemic declared by WHO as a public health emergency of international concern continues to gain ground. In Goma and surrounding areas, at least 300 cases have been recorded since early June. At Nyiragongo hospital, which houses an MPOX isolation center, nurses are hard at work, dealing with desperate patients. Here, the majority of MPOX patients are displaced people who fled the fighting between the M23 rebels and the Congolese army. They find themselves isolated in this treatment center, deprived of their families.
