This new feature is a step forward for those who will make a call to someone who is not among the saved contacts.
To make its messaging more practical, WhatsApp is trying to evolve its features to make calls and conversations more practical for its users. Groups, communities, connection to a computer even if the smartphone is turned off… There are many developments. The application also plans a major advance that will make it easier to call a stranger who is not in your contact list.
Because, until now, to contact a new person on WhatsApp, their number had to be saved in our contact list. In addition, our phone number is automatically displayed, and we take the risk of being called back even if we don’t want to. The app is therefore working on a completely new system that will allow you to get in touch with a stranger, thanks to a unique username, even if you don’t know their phone number. For now, this feature is under development.
Another app already has this type of system. It is the Telegram app, one of WhatsApp’s main competitors. You can set up a public username on Telegram. It then becomes possible for other users to find you using this username: you will appear in the contact search under “global results”. This allows them to send you a message without needing to know your number“, explains the Telegram application.
