Get the Deluxe Edition

Hardly any other game developer told such great stories, had such complex characters and presented players with more momentous decisions than Bioware. The Canadian studio’s titles were once among the best that the role-playing genre had to offer.

Despite all the praise, it is also true that the last releases were flops and disappointed the press and the public – the third-person multiplayer shooter Anthem was even canceled altogether. We are all the more excited about Dragon Age: The Veilguardthe fourth part of the legendary fantasy series. At Amazon you can get the Deluxe Edition with lots of digital goodies.

In addition to the Deluxe Edition, you can now also pre-order the Standard Edition for PS5 *, Xbox * and PC. The game is scheduled to be released on October 31st.

A new chapter after 8 years: Dragon Age: The Veilguard

The expectations for Dragon Age: The Veilguard are gigantic, as Bioware has true role-playing masterpieces in its portfolio with Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Dragon Age: Origins, the first chapter in the series, in particular, triggers pleasant memories in players. And Bioware actually wants to build on the classic in many ways.

This is what it’s about: The action begins ten years after the third installment in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition. You face a new adversary, the dire wolf, who is preparing to dissolve the boundaries between the mortal world and the magical realm of the void. The so-called veil keeps the demons from the void away from the world of Thedas and you belong to the Veilguard, the last line of defense between reality and chaos.

Here’s what you can look forward to: You create your own character and can choose between three classes (mage, warrior and rogue), each with three specializations. Again, there are numerous companions with their own backstories with whom you can go into battle, but also enter into relationships and romances. As is usual with Bioware games, your decisions affect the plot.

This is changing: The big elephant in the room is certainly the combat system, which has changed a lot over the course of the series. Dragon Age: Origins used a tactical, turn-based system that gradually became more action-packed. The Veilguard follows the same pattern: you fight dynamically in real time, have to actively dodge attacks, and are very close to the fray with the camera. There is no longer a tactical top-down view.

Instead, you can pause the battles to calmly select spells and abilities that will then be triggered as soon as the battle resumes. This tactical pause is said to be important, especially on the higher difficulty levels.

If you are not interested in digital bonus items, but your collector’s heart beats for elaborate physical extras, then you should take a look at the Collector’s Edition which are currently available exclusively in the Bioware Shop.

Included are a glowing lyrium dagger, a potion bottle, a map of Thedas with quiver, a magical D12 die and Rook’s deck of cards. Annoyingly, the Collector’s Edition does not include the game itself. A practice that is becoming more and more common, but in my opinion should not become the norm. Nevertheless, fans get some really neat collectibles for their display cases.
