Premium for SEK 10000 can be applied for on

On 20 August, the Housing Authority opens the application for the temporary scrapping premium.

The temporary scrapping premium refers to private individuals who scrap an older car and at the same time buy or lease a new or a used electric car, the Housing Authority writes on its website. The older car must be equipped with a combustion engine.

The scrapping premium is SEK 10,000, and applies to cars that are scrapped between 20 August 2024 and 19 August 2025. According to the Housing Authority, the scrapping premium can only be used once per person.

The cars that are not covered by the scrapping premium are electric hybrids and plug-in hybrids.

The application is completed digitally via the Housing Authority’s e-service. There you need to identify yourself with e-identification, such as BankID.

In order to receive the premium, the applicant needs to fill in the scrapped car’s registration number, which is enough for the Housing Agency to be able to obtain the necessary information from the road traffic register. The same applies to the new electric car.

The person applying for the premium needs to have been registered as the owner of the scrapped car and now be the owner of an electric car.

The requirements: It applies to the scrapping premium 2024-2025

There are several requirements for both the scrapped car and the new electric car. According to The Housing Authority the following applies to the scrapped car:

  • The scrapped car must be a Class I passenger car.
  • The scrapped car must have a combustion engine.
  • The scrapped car must have a maximum total weight of 3,500 kilograms.
  • The scrapped car must be classified in emission class Euro 4 or the corresponding older emission class.
  • The scrapped car must have been handed over to an authorized car scrapper.
  • The scrapped car must be deregistered due to scrapping.
  • The scrapped car must have passed a control inspection after July 6, 2022.
  • The scrapped car must have been owned by the applicant since September 6, 2023.
  • The scrapped car must not have been used by the applicant or a relative of the applicant in individual business activities.
  • And for the electric car:

  • The electric car must have the applicant as registered owner or lessee in the road traffic register.
  • The electric car must be a Class I passenger car.
  • The electric car must be classified in emission class El.
  • The electric car must be switched on.
  • The electric car must not have a driving ban.
  • The electric car must not have been owned by a relative of the applicant.
  • The electric car must not be intended for use by the applicant or a relative of the applicant in individual business activities.
  • The electric car must not have formed the basis of a premium previously granted under the same regulation.
