Many of Sunday’s Petrolia 150th anniversary events moving indoors

Several of Sunday’s 150th anniversary events in Petrolia’s Greenwood Park have been moved because of wet conditions following weekend rains.

Organizers for the town’s anniversary events said a non-sectarian church service originally expected to be held outdoors in the park has been moved to St. Paul’s United Church at 10 am

Several Hard Oil Kids’ Day events that were scheduled to run the park during the day have been moved indoors or postpond.

A Ricky Magic magic show will now be at 11 am inside the Greenwood Recreation Centre.

The dance party has also been moved to the center, organizers said.

A Black top versus OPP, EMS and fire Canada Day baseball rematch has been postponed with a new date to be announced.

Roller skating is postponed to a date to be announced.

Bingo will be held at noon inside the Petrolia Lions Pavilion.

Soapbox racing will be held on Huggard Street with registration at 9 am and heats beginning at 10 am

Face painting, balloon twisting, crafts, games and other activities will be held indoors at the recreation center and the pavilion.

Food trucks will be open throughout the event.

Sunday events follow a three-day Hard Oil Music Festival in the park with evening concerts Thursday to Saturday.

There was also a car show Saturday morning at the Petrolia Farmers’ Market and a 150th anniversary parade through town that afternoon.

The central Lambton County community, built on the discovery of oil in 1858, is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its incorporation as a town with a year’s worth of events and celebrations that began Jan. 1 and will culminate with a New Year’s Eve celebration.
