Germany denies allegations of reducing aid to Ukraine Foreign

In Germany, the value of shares in the defense industry fell after the media reported that the government plans to cut aid to Ukraine.

The spokesperson of the German government denied on Monday that the country was cutting its aid to Ukraine.

The online newspaper Politico and the news agency AFP reported over the weekend that Germany intends to halve its aid to Ukraine next year.

The German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung also reports that the country’s government is no longer ready to give new aid to Ukraine.

According to the government spokesperson, these claims made in the media are not true.

Until now, Germany has been Ukraine’s biggest European supporter.

Support can take new forms

On Monday, the value of shares in the defense industry fell on the Frankfurt stock exchange.

The value of Rheinmetall fell by three percent, and Hensoldt, which manufactures research, by six percent.

Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz has previously said that he supports the idea that Russia’s frozen funds would be directed to support Ukraine.

A spokesman for Germany’s economy ministry said on Monday that the G7 countries are currently working to create a loan program for Ukraine that could use the proceeds of frozen Russian assets.

According to the spokesman, the goal is that Germany could use this instrument to support Ukraine from next year.
