Since the success of the modern western series Yellowstone, Kevin Costner has been experiencing a career high, but he is not resting on his laurels. On the contrary, Costner has used his rejuvenated fame to make a lifelong dream come true. It is called Horizon and is a four-part Western saga for the big screenPart 1, Horizon, opens in German cinemas this week and takes us into a bloody chapter of US history.
Horizon tells of the settlement of the American West
The story of Horizon Part 1 focuses on the time of the American Civil War, but it takes place far away from the battlefields of the North and South. While soldiers go to war in the 1860s, settler treks travel to the American West, lured by cheap land and many promises. One of these places is called Horizon and it lies in the middle of a river crossing of an Apache tribe. This does not stop fortune hunters or families from settling on the patch of land – with devastating consequences.

Starting from this place, the script throws a wide network of characters and storylines Among them are Sienna Miller as a settler who witnesses the violence, Sam Worthington as a cavalry officer and Owen Crow Shoe as a young Apache warrior who is more willing to put up with the invaders. Kevin Costner takes on the role of an inconspicuous miner who, by chance, has to prove his ability to handle revolvers.
If you watch the Western, it is best to do so in the cinema
The Western celebrated its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where I saw my first, very positive impression of Horizon I wrote down the film. The reviews since then have been rather poor (48 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), but anyone who has a heart for classic westerns, Kevin Costner and epic stories should definitely not miss the film. The nature shots are particularly impressive in the cinema and are a balm for the CGI-tormented soul.

Filming for part 3 began in the summer. However, it is uncertain whether Kevin Costner will be able to finish the saga with the planned 4th film, as the first film was a disappointment at the box office in the USA.
All parts taken together, Horizon is probably the biggest Western project of recent years.
