  • Biden on ceasefire: “Not giving up”

    President Joe Biden remains hopeful about the US proposal for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza being negotiated in Qatar.

    – It is still ongoing. We don’t give up. The opportunity still exists, Biden said on Sunday.

    The comment came after Foreign Minister Antony Blinken traveled to the Middle East to “finalize a cease-fire agreement,” according to an earlier statement from the US Foreign Ministry.

    There is a fire in a conservatory in Motala municipality, according to the rescue service.

    The fire has spread to a villa.

    Residents must be out of the house.

  • The smell of smoke spreads in Stockholm

    On Sunday evening, the emergency services received several calls about the smell of smoke in Stockholm.

    It came from a fire in two train carriages in Västberga.

    – They contain packed paper and it is difficult to put out. We are trying water, said Thomas Skantz at the rescue service.

    The alarm came from a passerby at 10:21 p.m. The fire was extinguished by 01:30.

    – It is depressed. Now we are left with a smaller force and keep an eye on it so it doesn’t happen again, said Thomas Skantz.

    The smoke spread with the wind and the rescue service received many calls from Södermalm and Kungsholmen.

  • Skulls were used for racial biology – returned

    146-year-old skulls that were retrieved in a grave desecration for racial biological purposes were returned to the earth in Pajala on Sunday, the Church of Sweden announces.

    In 1878, 23 skulls were exhumed from the Akamella desert cemetery outside Muodoslompolo in Pajala. These were graves of Tornedal, Kven, Lanthalais and Sami individuals, whose remains were then to be used for racial biological research in Helsinki.

    This is the first time that remains from the Meänkie speaking population have been returned.

    Ukraine has been advancing in Russia’s Kursk region for just over two weeks.

    Now the country’s President Zelenskyi reveals the goal of the offensive.

  • Car rammed tractor party

    During the night of Sunday, the police on Gotland were alerted about a car and a crazy ride in connection with an event.

    – A man had taken his car and driven through the gates to the event. He continued into plastic furniture, tables and chairs, says Niklas Berglund, officer on duty at the police.

    The incident occurred just before 1 a.m.

    According to P4 Gotland it all took place at the Sudret Truckmeet in Fardhem on southern Gotland. Around 1,200 people are said to have been on site during the weekend.

    – There has been an upset atmosphere and a mess on site. People were in the vicinity of where the car was driving.

    No one was injured during the crazy ride.

    – The man who drove the car is a plaintiff in a case connected to this. He must have been the victim of vandalism, but I don’t know if it was before or after he drove into the event, says Niklas Berglund.

    The man is suspected of serious assault and damage.

    – The investigation must show who did what, in what order and possibly intent, he says.

  • Another aging crime

    A woman in her 90s has been the victim of fraud, the police announce.

    A person has sneaked into the woman’s apartment by stating that he was going to check the water in the home.

    Several perpetrators have resorted to money and jewellery.

    It is the second scam today in which 90-year-old women have been deceived by a man who pretends to “control the water” in the home.

    A truck and a car have collided on the E6 near Varberg.

    The accident occurred at 6 p.m.

    The Swedish Transport Agency states that the accident has caused a major impact on traffic.

  • UN warns: More and more malnourished children in Yemen

    Famine worsens in war-torn Yemen. The number of children under the age of five suffering from acute malnutrition in government-controlled areas has increased by 34 percent compared to last year, according to the UN children’s agency Unicef.

    Over 600,000 children are currently affected, of which 120,000 are classified as severely malnourished.

    “The sharp increase is caused by a combined effect of disease outbreaks (cholera and measles), limited access to food and clean drinking water, and economic decline,” states Unicef.

    The famine statistics come from 117 different government-controlled districts in Yemen, and thus do not cover the equally dire situation in Houthi-controlled areas.

  • Action after a suspected serious crime

    On Sunday, the police had an operation in a forest area outside Tierp in Norduppland.

    – We are investigating a suspected serious crime. I cannot say more than that at the moment, says Magnus Jansson Klarin, press spokesperson at the police.

    An ambulance and several police cars have been called to the scene. Police with reinforcement weapons have also been on the scene.

    Magnus Jansson Klarin states that there is no danger to the public.

    – We are still on site and working on the case, but the most ongoing phase is over.

    At 19:00, the police state that a man was arrested in connection with the operation and that the police fired warning shots and then opened fire.

    A 90-year-old woman has been victimized by a fraudster in Mörrum in Karlshamn, the police announce.

    A moped and an electric scooter have collided in Malmö.

    Two people are affected, and one has been taken to hospital.

    A traffic accident has occurred on the E20 between Lyrestad and Mariestad.
