Should you wash your hair once a week or every other day to optimize growth? That is the question! Two experts answer.

It’s hard to know what the right hair routine is, as expert opinions contradict each other. Interviewed for Instyle magazine, two hair experts reveal the best washing frequency.

    Healthy Scalp for Healthy Hair

Hair beauty starts with the scalp. If it accumulates impurities, the hair cannot be clean afterwards. Anabel Kingsley, President of the Philip Kingsley brand and trichologist, explains: “Your scalp is the foundation of healthy hair growth, so it’s essential to take care of it and shampoo regularly.,” she reveals to the media InStyle. The expert recommends washing your hair every other day to clean the roots of sweat, dirt and dead cells. The accumulation of these impurities clogs and disrupts the scalp.

This can impact the strength and quality of the hair that subsequently grows, and you may develop scalp problems such as dandruff.”also adds the expert.

Adapt your routine to your hair type

However, the frequency of washing should be adapted to your hair type. Dr. Nathan, a dermatologist, recommends shampooing at least once a week, or even twice, for straight or wavy hair. The same goes for curly hair! On the other hand, fine hair, which tends to get greasy more quickly, can be washed every four days at the most, recommends the specialist.

If you still don’t want to wash your hair frequently, “There are leave-in clarifying treatments that can be used directly on the scalp to help cleanse and exfoliate without washing.”, Dr. Nathan finally concludes.
