A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Russia at 22:10 GMT. The US National Tsunami Warning Center reported that there was a tsunami threat from the earthquake, while the European Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that the earthquake was recorded at a depth of about 29 km (18 miles).
