Romulus is so disgusting that even the stars couldn’t watch

Slime, acid, tentacles, various birthing mechanisms, claws, teeth and bursting ribcages: the Alien series shocks with very physical forms of horror. The new addition, Alien: Romulus, which has recently been in cinemas, is apparently no exception. According to star Isabela Merced, one scene is so disgusting that even the cast couldn’t bear it.

Horror scene in Alien: Romulus pulverized the cast’s pain thresholds

Merced told the Hollywood Reporter about a moment during filming when director Fede Alvarez played part of the film to his cast on an iPad:

There is a scene with me where everyone had to turn away. Not one person continued to look at the iPad, because it was so disgusting. And I looked at the scene [völlig begeistert] I was really excited.

Which alien scene shocked the cast so much?

She doesn’t reveal which scene it is, so we can only guess. However, there is one sequence with Merced that stands out because of its body horror.

Merced’s character Kay is pregnant. In the meantime, she injects herself with dangerous alien DNA, which she believes is a cure. Finally, she gives birth to a terrifying hybrid of alien, human and a so-called constructor, whose people are known to franchise fans from Prometheus: Dark Times, among others.

The birth scene is a bloody and terrifying horror moment that could have disturbed even the cast. Of course, there are other possible alternatives: as an unsuspecting crew member, Merced’s character is exposed to a whole range of shocking situations.
