The Morph Axe is one of two weapon types in Monster Hunter Wilds that combine two opposites. Capcom shows what this will look like in the finished game for Steam and PS5 in a trailer.
What game is this about? Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest installment in the popular Monster Hunter series. It is an action RPG in which you hunt monsters alone or in co-op and constantly improve your equipment.
Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled to be released on Steam for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2025. In several trailers that the developer Capcom has already released, they present the different weapons that you can use in the game.
You can take a first look at the Morph Axe here:
What can the Morph Axe do? As the name suggests, this weapon type can switch between two different modes. In axe mode, you can hit monsters from a greater distance, while sword mode is suitable for quick attacks.

The trailer doesn’t directly reveal whether the sword form will consume energy and thus be time-limited, as in Monster Hunter: World. There, staying in sword mode for too long meant that you had to reload the weapon manually or wait a while before you could switch back into it.
In addition to the Focus Mode developed for Monster Hunter Wilds, the trailer also shows another new feature: the Morph Axe can now carry out counter attacks. These require good timing, but are a welcome defensive tool alongside dodging. You still cannot block with this type of weapon.
In Monster Hunter Rise there was already a counter, the Elemental Burst Counter, with the Morph Axe, but only as a special Wirebug move. As of now, the Wirebugs are not returning.
How does the weapon arrive? The comments on YouTube are mostly full of praise and anticipation.
