Frank Ward took home the fundraiser’s $100,000 guaranteed jackpot, a foundation release said.

Ward and his family were away for the weekend when they got the news, so he didn’t collect his check until Monday.

“We were on our annual trip to St. Jacobs, so my son took the call from the foundation,” he said in the release.

“Then we got an email saying that the winner was Frank W., and my son checked the ticket and saw that we had the winning number, and I still can’t believe it. I’ve never won anything in my life before, so I’m still a little bit shaken up.”

The Summer 50/50 launched July 2, with Ward buying his $50 ticket – with winning number CK-6203282 – July 7.

Ward, who retired from his IT career two years ago, said the money will help provide some security and peace of mind.

“This money sets me and my family up for the future,” he said. “We’re going to invest this, and then we know that no matter what happens, we’ll be covered. It’s going to make a huge difference for us.”

The Summer 50/50 campaign, inaugurating a $100,000 guaranteed jackpot for the grand prize winner, sold $154,090 in tickets.

Proceeds will go toward the hospital’s highest priority needs, including equipment and facility upgrades.

“As a foundation, we are always looking for innovative new ways to raise funds, build excitement, and give back to the wonderful community of supporters who give so generously to our hospital year after year,” foundation chief executive Christine Mitchell said.

“The guaranteed jackpot helped create a real buzz around this summer campaign, and we couldn’t be happier for Frank and his family. As always, we are so grateful to everyone who purchased tickets and helped spread the word.”

The foundation’s Holiday 50/50 kicks off in late November. Community members can follow the foundation on social media – @CKHAFoundation on Facebook, Instagram, and X – for more details.
