According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the first confirmed case of polio has been detected in the Gaza Strip. The infected is a ten-month-old child in Deir al-Balah.
Previously, it has been reported that polio virus has been detected in waste water in Gaza. Gaza has been polio-free for 25 years.
The UN World Health Organization WHO and the children’s fund Unicef appealed earlier today for a ceasefire so that children in Gaza could be given polio vaccines.
