When Armand Duplantis and Karsten Warholm make up in the 100 meters.
Now comes the Swedish expert Alhaji Jeng with unexpected words.
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris became a new grandiose display of the world’s best pole vaulters Armand Duplantis. The Swedish giant lived up to the high expectations placed on him by winning both Olympic gold and setting a new world record.

“Mondo” has since been highly praised as one of the world’s very best track and field athletes. He also seems to have received a lot of lift under his wings and great confidence as a historic super duel awaits.

Duplantis takes on the Norwegian superstar Karsten Warholm in a pure sprint event over 100 meters in Zurich on September 4. Warholm is one of the world’s best in the 400 meter hurdles, but only had to settle for an Olympic silver at the distance in Paris.
“He’s better”
The Norwegian should probably be the favorite in a sprint duel against a pole vaulter. But now comes the Swedish TV expert Alhaji Jeng with a completely different view of the matter.
– It is very rare that two different branches meet in this way, so it should be very exciting. However, I can’t say that Karsten will win or Mondo will win because they have pretty much identical personal bests. Duplantis has also become much faster in recent years, so it will really be a showdown in prime time, he tells SVT.

Jeng points out Duplanti’s big advantage over Warholm in a 100-meter race.
– Mondo runs in a sprint-like manner, so he has a good advantage that way. Karsten doesn’t have as much sprint technique, so if you look technically, Mondo is actually a bit better equipped, he tells the TV channel.
– But at the same time, this is not something he does every day. He runs a lot, but this particular thing about going down blocks and accelerating, it’s in a different way to what he does on the pole vault track. Because there it’s about being upright more so you can balance the pole. It is something other than sprinting. But clearly I think he has better technique than Karsten Warholm.
Another decisive aspect before the giant Nordic duel is the psychological. Where Karsten Warholm has much more at stake than Armand Duplantis, who can go into the competition completely relaxed and overcome a disadvantage.
– Warholm has more to lose from this, if he were to get beaten by Mondo, it would probably have hurt more than the other way around, admits Alhaji Jeng in his analysis.
