WhatsApp is expanding its customization options! You will soon be able to change the theme of the instant messenger, by changing the color of the chat bubbles, like on Telegram.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messengers, which is hardly surprising given its efficient interface, the great security it offers – messages are end-to-end encrypted – and the many functions it offers and continues to add. However, there is one point where WhatsApp lags behind its competitors: customization. Indeed, there are only a few options to modify the interface of the messenger. It is only possible to choose between dark or light mode, and to replace the background of the discussions with an image or a photo. In short, it is impossible to change the colors of the bubbles, icons or tab bars. No wonder some users turn to third-party applications, which are more flexible and permissive!

But it seems that Meta, the parent company of the instant messenger, is working to give users more customization. Indeed, the specialized site WABetaInfo discovered in the beta version 2.24.17.19 of the Android app a new function to change the theme for message bubbles. A bit like what you find on Telegram!

WhatsApp Themes: Change Chat Bubble Color

The new customization feature would integrate at least ten different themes. Selecting a theme will not only change the color of the bubbles, but also the wallpaper of the conversations. Since it is a default chat theme, it will be applied automatically to all our conversations, but it is possible that, later, we will be able to set a different theme for each discussion. For now, the function will not be as permissive as on Telegram, which allows you to create your own theme thanks to a color palette. It is still under development, but it should be available to everyone, on iOS as well as Android, in a future update.

By integrating customization features, WhatsApp is aligning itself with the general trend in instant messaging, which consists of giving us more and more control over the application interface. And this is a very good thing, especially for people with visual impairments or who need a specific color for greater personal visual comfort. There is no doubt that the possibility of changing the main color of the theme will make the application much more user-friendly and comfortable!
