It’s going well now.
The Swedish hotels are heading for a new record summer.
Despite tough times financially, vacationers have chosen to spend large sums on accommodation, new figures from the tourism industry show.
Despite no major events in the big cities that push up hotel prices, August still gave the hotel industry a 3.4 percent increase in revenue. At Visita, they believe it’s because people generally see the holiday as sacred.
– We have had a rather extreme economic situation where private households have been under a lot of pressure. At the same time, under those conditions, people have actually continued to consume above all things that concern holiday consumption. It is connected to the fact that we have five weeks of vacation, we want to spend them with our loved ones and then we save to spend during that time, says Thomas Jakobsson, Chief Economist at Visita.
Going for a record
Despite the fact that it has been tough to say the least financially lately, it looks like it will be a record for the hotels – again.
– This summer, demand has been about as high as last summer, and last summer was a record summer. So hopefully, since August looks a little better with the booking situation, we will get another record this summer, says Thomas Jakobsson.
