Alien is a science fiction horror franchise that began in 1979 with Alien. The latest installment in the series, Alien: Romulus, was released in 2024. As part of this, MeinMMO editor Nikolas Hernes ranks all 7 films in the series.
How was this list created? The list ranks all Alien films from the original quadrilogy along with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. The latest installment, Alien Romulus, is also included. The two Alien vs. Predator films are not included on this list.
This list is based on the author’s personal opinion and does not take into account objective factors such as IMDb ratings. If you have a different ranking, please write it in the comments.
In addition to the films, there are some crossovers with other characters in the comics. You can find the most bizarre of them here: 5 crossovers with Alien that hardly anyone knows about
7. Alien Covenant
Release: 2017
As a direct sequel to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant wants to explain more about the Xenomorphs and fails miserably. There are some cool scenes here too, but the story is a bit over the top and plods along for the first half.
The aliens themselves are OK, but you won’t find the brutal action of the second part or the horror of the first. Apart from Michael Fassbender, no actor stands out, which means that they all end up as cannon fodder for the Xenomorphs.
6. Alien – Rebirth
Release: 1997
The fourth part of the Alien series is just too much. It’s about clones, robots, bioweapons and, of course, the Xenomorphs at the center. Unfortunately, they fade into the background and the film seems like a copy of Aliens – The Return, only with fewer aliens.
The film often seems like a typical Milla Jovovich film. At times you feel like you’re in Underworld or Resident Evil. Ripley is just as unsympathetic in this film. There are some interesting images and body horror elements, but the additional elements that are attributed to the Xenomorphs are, like everything else in the film, just too much.
But for a trash evening, the film is quite entertaining.
