In Provence the memory of the August 1944 landing remains

The international ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the landing in Provence will be held at the Boulouris necropolis in the Var, a major place of remembrance that brings together the bodies of soldiers, particularly Africans, who fell in this department 80 years ago. A site where Emmanuel Macron had already welcomed several African heads of state five years ago. In the region, the local memory of this landing, long overshadowed by that of Normandy, two and a half months earlier, is still alive. Many villages and towns in the region organize events every year to commemorate this memory and pass it on to the youngest.
