30 wrecks on the seabed off Nacka

When the municipality investigated the bottom off Nacka’s coast, they made several unexpected discoveries.
With advanced technology, 30 wrecks were captured on film.
– Some may have been wrecked during the 1850s, says Johan Ramstedt at the municipality’s outdoor environment management.

At the bottom along Nacka’s coast, the municipality discovered not just one – but 30 wrecks: everything from really old wooden boats to modern fiberglass ones.

– Some boats may be protected and it is not impossible that a boat was wrecked during the 1850s, says Johan Ramstedt of the municipality’s management for the outdoor environment.

“More than I imagined”

The wrecks were found with the help of a boat with advanced equipment that has traveled 10 miles along Nacka’s coast – in search of debris on the bottom of the sea.

In addition to the wreckage, seven cars, 18 car tires and over 150 other items, such as barrels, scaffolding and building materials, were also recovered.

– There are more boats than I imagined. I was aware that we would find cars, as these are industrial quays, says Johan Ramstedt.

– Some of the findings have fallen naturally, but it can also be related to accidents and insurance fraud.

“Everything doesn’t come up”

Next, the municipality must investigate how the salvage will be carried out and which places and objects should be prioritized, in order to eventually make an application to the county administrative board.

– We won’t recover everything, but I don’t yet dare to say how much we will be able to salvage, says Johan Ramstedt.
