Katarina returns to Tornedalen every summer: “There is the language of my heart”

For Stockholmer Katarina Woolley, the annual trip to the landscape of her childhood in Tornedalen, on both sides of the border, is an important tradition.

Woolley’s roots extend to both sides of the Torne river. Her father comes from Övertorneå on the Swedish side and her mother from Ylitornio on the Finnish side.

– I try to go there at least once a year, says Woolley.

– It’s absolutely wonderful to just be there and take the day as it comes. I can bake, drink coffee and eat buns, especially Finnish buns!
