Last week it became clear, what everyone had been waiting for. Therese Johaug returns to cross-country skiing again and makes a wholehearted commitment to the World Ski Championships 2025 in Trondheim.
Johaug back
The Norwegian skiing queen has been away from the skiing world for almost 2.5 years and managed to become a mother for the first time in the meantime. But the whole time she has kept up the training and the urge to make a comeback has always been there.

When now a five-mile makes an entrance on the women’s side in the WC and it is decided on home ground, she could not resist. This brings the rivalry back to life between Johaug and the Swedish skiing stars Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson.
Northug’s play
Both Swedes welcome the new challenge and look forward to facing the Norwegian dominant again. However, Johaug admits that there will be no investment in either the World Cup or the Tour de Ski, but the big goal is the World Ski Championships.

But when the Norwegian ski queen also reveals that she hasn’t made any concrete plans yet, it causes another Norwegian to react strongly. Peter Northug don’t buy it at all and just start laughing.
– When Therese says that she doesn’t know how to prepare for the World Cup… Of course she knows. She has talked to Marit (Björgen) and knows exactly what she has to do every day before the five-mile race at the WC to win the gold. But she doesn’t want to share it with us, for it to spread. “Frida lies”
Northug accuses Johaug of lying, but also points out Frida Karlsson as a liar when she says that the Norwegians are now favorites in the skiing World Cup.
– It’s also mind games! The tactical game is underway. We know what Therese Johaug has done, but here and now Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson are ahead, they are the favourites. There is an awful lot of competence in the Swedish team, he says in the interview.

The outspoken Petter Northug completely dismisses all the talk that the Swedes would tremble at Johaug’s comeback.
– I don’t think they are afraid. But it is important for them to stand together, he tells the evening newspaper.
– But it’s fun to follow their tactical game. Whether it’s Therese, Ebba or Frida. Their innermost secrets, how they really think, no outsider gets to know.
