Kit Harington defends controversial finale and admits mistakes

Five years have already passed since the Game of Thrones finale reached us and left many fans disappointed. At the time, accusations ranged from questionable decisions regarding the plot and character development to a rushed narrative in just eight final episodes. While numerous series stars have already spoken out about the ending, Jon Snow actor Kit Harington is now following suit.

Kit Harington talks about exhaustion at Game of Thrones: “We were so damn tired”:

As Harington explained in an interview with GQ, he and the rest of the series stars and the crew were eight seasons in eight years simply out of energy:

If there was one mistake about the Game of Thrones ending, it was that we were all so damn tired and it couldn’t have gone on any longer. I understand that it felt rushed to some people, and I might agree with them. But I’m not sure there was an alternative. I look at pictures of myself in the final season and I look completely wasted. I look used up. I didn’t have another season in me.

The exhaustion may have also affected the story of the series, which, according to Harington, was also influenced by a few “interesting” Decisions were peppered:

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I think there may have been mistakes made in terms of the story at the end. There were some interesting decisions that didn’t really work.

Jon Snow spin-off with Kit Harington will not be developed further

As early as April 2024, we received the news that the spin-off about Jon Snow developed by HBO had been canceled. Harington now explained to GQ in more detail the reasons why he and the series team decided to cancel the series:

We felt like there was a limited story to tell there. We spent a couple of years developing it. But nothing really blew us away. In the end, I stepped back and said, ‘I think if we push this any further, we end up with something that is not good. And that’s the last thing any of us want.’

At the same time, Harington wanted to give himself and viewers the opportunity to associate him with other roles outside of Jon Snow. Among other things, Harington will soon be seen in the third season of the hit series Industry.
