Elden Ring has added numerous new bosses with the DLC. One stands out in particular and has details that make the fight against him even better.
Which boss is it? Anyone who has fought him will probably get goosebumps and be filled with awe at his name: Bayle.
The dragon that awaits you in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is without question one of the toughest boss enemies in the game. But aside from the gameplay challenge it offers, it also brings with it an exciting narrative backstory. A YouTuber has now highlighted several details that show that Bayle is a boss for the history books.
If you want to defeat Bayle and solve Igon’s quest, we have a guide for you on MeinMMO – or here as a video:
Bayle was not always victorious
What are the details? The YouTube channel Zullie The Witch covers various aspects of Elden Ring, but especially the lore. A new video is about Bayle and his story.
In it, the YouTuber first goes into the past of the terrible dragon. Back then, he fought against Placidusax, who players find in the Farum Azula area in the main game. Bayle turned against the ancient dragon, who, unlike himself, has four feet – but Bayle only has two.
This was probably due to evolutionary development, which divided the dragons into two camps. Bayle could not win the fight against Placidusax. They wounded each other and Bayle fled, badly injured. His injury has not yet fully healed, which is why the dragon has to rely on its tail when fighting the player.
His wings have also been badly massacred and are now just a shadow of their former selves. What they would have looked like becomes clear when Bayle summons wings to attack you during the fight. He also fights with his mutilated limbs and uses the protruding bones to attack.
Here you can see the whole video:
The YouTuber also points out that two of Placidusax’s heads are lying in Bayle’s arena – which shows that the ancient dragon from Farum Azula did not survive the confrontation unscathed either.
Bayle shares another detail with his most hated opponent: Igon.
Who is Igon? You will meet this NPC on your adventure. He wants you to defeat the dragon. Igon has already faced him once and lost the fight. Like the terrible dragon, Igon is also missing his left leg – this becomes clear when you take a closer look at Igon’s character model.
According to the YouTuber, Igon also seems to be a reference to the possessed Captain Ahab from the novel Moby Dick – with Bayle playing the role of the whale. Ahab wants to kill Moby Dick at all costs because he injured him. This shows that FromSoftware was particularly thorough in incorporating numerous small details and making the fight something special. Igon is a fan favorite, by the way, and his voice actor is celebrated online.
