There were hundreds of people and a large number of cars that had gathered at Kalvholmen in Karlstad during the night to Sunday. According to one of the organizers on site, it was initially about a car meeting in a secluded place but turned into a street race, and the police were called to the scene.
– The public is obliged to leave a clear path for emergency vehicles. But despite the patrols turning on sirens and blue lights and calling for a clear path, the sea of people refused to move, said police spokesperson Lars Hedelin about the incident on Monday.
“Ran over several people”
According to the police, people also allegedly threw bottles and kicked the police cars on the spot. But according to several of the people who participated in the weekend’s gathering at Kalvholmen, the police’s picture of the incident is not correct.
– There was no one standing in the way when they turned on the sirens. And they hit several people before they had even turned on the blue lights, says “Amanda” who was there.
“Amanda”, whose real name is something else, is one of those who is said to have been hit and she has also reported it to the police. The police do not wish to comment further on the incident as an investigation into suspected misconduct is now underway.
