Armand Duplantis is back in Sweden again.
“Mondo” was widely praised for the Olympic gold and the world record on Monday.
Then also mother Helena Duplantis came up with unexpected words that the son does not immediately agree with…
During the summer Olympics in Paris wrote Armand Duplantis Swedish sports history in the most powerful way. The expectations were of course enormously high for the world’s best pole vaulter, but he still managed to take everything to a whole new level.
Duplanti’s success
“Mondo” won the Olympic gold with ease, also broke a new Olympic record, and then he got an entire arena with 80,000 spectators to boil. When the 24-year-old also broke a new world record with 6.25 meters, there was complete ecstasy.

It’s been a week since then and Duplantis has been enjoying a luxury vacation in Greece with his girlfriend Desire Inglander. Of course, the Olympic gold and the world record have been well celebrated as well, you noticed that already the day after the sports evening when a very tired Mondo visited the Olympic studio in Kanal 5 and hardly had any voice at all.
“Mondo’s” response
On Monday, Duplantis was back on Swedish soil again and had to receive the crowd’s cheers during the tribute in the Mall of Scandinavia.
– We had a little holiday but it was time to come back and celebrate. I just came home from vacation with “Dessie”… I’m trying to relax and let everything sink in, says Mondo to the gathered Swedes.
– That was what we needed. I think she was more tired than me. We had an alarm for half past eleven but it felt like six o’clock! I couldn’t believe it but it was very nice. We didn’t do much, we slept a lot. We had dinner at a restaurant, but we didn’t do much. That’s what we wanted to do.

For Mondo, it was important to get a break from the whole Olympic bubble and enjoy a bit of what he had achieved in Paris. But even if he himself is set on celebrating at home in Sweden now, so are the mother and the coach Helena Duplantis of a completely different opinion.
– Now we have finished celebrating and will start training, she says clearly.
– The season is not over yet.

Armand Duplantis was also asked if he had any yummy gossip from the weeks in the Olympic Village in Paris. But he wasn’t too keen on talking about that.
– There are children here, haha, says Mondo with a laugh in front of everyone present.
