For the first time in nearly 80 years, a first debate took place on Monday, August 12, at the UN Security Council on strengthening African representation. A debate considered “essential” by 11 countries, including Sierra Leone, which presides over the Council in August. The representatives present explained that Africa is demanding equitable representation in all decision-making bodies of the UN and in particular in the Security Council. The only way, according to them, to ensure that decisions will truly benefit the African continent.
