(Telestock) – The Antitrust Authority asks to avoid further extensions for beach concessions and to proceed with the tenders. This is what is underlined in the Bulletin in which it “reiterates the importance of using competitive assignment methods of maritime, lake and river state concessions for the exercise of tourist, recreational and sporting activities, avoiding further extensions and automatic renewals and, to this end, hopes that the above observations will be taken into due consideration”.
“With specific reference to the extensions – we read in the Bulletin in reference to a report from the Authority sent to the Permanent Conference for relations between the State, the Regions and the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano and to the National Association of Italian Municipalities – the Authority has repeatedly underlined that the continued use of this instrument violates the principles of competition to the extent that it prevents competitive comparison for the market, which should be guaranteed when awarding incident services on scarce state resources, in a context in which competitive dynamics are already particularly weakened due to the long duration of the concessions currently in place, and favours the distorting effects connected to unjustified rents attributed to concessionaires”.
