A nasty outburst from her boyfriend leaves leading German streamers on Twitch in a difficult position

The most successful German Twitch streamers for League of Legends such as NoWay, Tolkin and Broeki all play in one team: NNO Old. But one of their teammates, Agurin, has recently had a bad blackout. This is causing critical questions in the LoL community.

What was that glitch?

  • NNO’s best player is Muhammed “Agurin” Kocak (28). He is a jungler and one of the best SoloQ players in the world, at least in the eyes of his teammate NoWay, and he knows a thing or two about this sort of thing.
  • In a stream in English, Agurin has now resorted to language that is generally considered to be an absolute taboo and is usually severely punished: he told an opponent that he should take his own life.
  • This was sarcastically denounced in a tweet on X as “This is normal & appropriate behavior for one of the biggest German League influencers.” The tweet reached 1.2 million views and caused anger.
  • He is generally considered one of the worst flamers in LoL – but the German streamers from NNO are actually the “good guys”:

Friends of the streamer are held collectively responsible and are asked to make a statement

That was the problem: Agurin is a member of NNO. This team has a special position in Germany because it consists of some of the most prominent Twitch streamers in the country. Many of them used to be professionals but decided to make money as Twitch streamers. In 2022, the “pensioner team” had a crazy run in the 2nd German league.

Some members of NNO unofficially play “important roles” in the German LoL community, are themselves affiliated with Riot Games and generally enjoy a good reputation:

NNO owns 5 of the 7 largest LoL channels on Twitch

    Over the year:

  • NoWay ranks first in Germany by hours watched in LoL on Twitch
  • Will Tolkin come in second?
  • NNO Prime ranks 4th
  • Broeki is in 5th place
  • NNO’s supporter, Karni, takes 7th place
  • Agurin would actually be in third place, but he now streams in English and is therefore off the list.

People on Twitter are now demanding statements from NNO, that they should distance themselves from Agurin or at least make a statement.

How NNO reacted: Tolkin said something like: That is really a problem. However, there are double standards here. In the English-speaking community, this tone is commonplace, but it is only a problem in Germany. Agurin still has to apologize for it (via Twitch)

Broeki said on Twitter, somewhat sourly, that he did not want to give the “mob” any fodder. She was annoyed that people were threatening to drag friends and sponsors into the conflict. He did not defend Agurin, but did not want to provide any content to “drama-hungry little cunts”.

NoWay explained Agurin’s outburst by saying that LoL is in a bad state and that many people are frustrated right now and that things are happening as a result. However, he demanded that LoL players hold back even in the heat of the moment: You can call people “idiots” but when you start saying that their lives are worthless – that’s not acceptable for NoWay. You never know what life situation the other person is in and how such statements will affect them.

As a streamer, you have a responsibility for your reach. This will be dealt with internally at NNO.

    Agurin apologizes

This is how Agurin himself reacted: Agurin apologized in a tweet today. He said he had crossed a line here. This was completely unacceptable. Such insults are normalized in the English-speaking community, but they should never become the norm.

He will work on his behavior and his language.

NoWay explains the current irritable mood in LoL with the poor state of the game, which is causing a lot of frustration. Nerves are obviously frayed. NoWay himself seems to have had enough of League of Legends recently: “If nothing changes, I’m leaving” – is NoWay going to stop playing LoL soon?
