Following the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, the capital of Iran, Israel has been expecting an attack from Iran for about two weeks in response to the assassination. The latest information has increased concerns around the world. While it was reported that the Iranian army was making “significant preparations,” John Kirby, the Strategic Communications Coordinator for the US National Security Council, also suggested that Iran could attack Israel this week.
THEY ATTACKED IRAN WITH HUNDREDS OF MISSILES AND UAVS
Axios’ Middle East correspondent Barak Ravid wrote on the X social media account that Israeli and US officials told him that significant preparations similar to those made before Iran’s April attack on Israel with hundreds of missiles and UAVs were observed in relevant units of the military.
The post also noted that Israel and the US had no knowledge of the timing of the attack.
HIGH ALERT IN THE ISRAELI ARMY!
The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a source familiar with the matter, that Israel went on high alert for the first time in August after observing Iran and Hezbollah preparing for a counter-attack.
Israeli state television KAN reported that Israel was preparing for a larger-scale attack than the one launched by Iran in April.
WHITE HOUSE: “IRAN MAY ATTACK ISRAEL THIS WEEK”
On the other hand, John Kirby, the Strategic Communications Coordinator of the US National Security Council, suggested that Iran and the groups it supports could attack Israel this week, and stated that this information was shared with Israel. Kirby stated that it was difficult to predict the scale of Iran’s attack, and emphasized that “we need to be prepared for a significant series of attacks.”
Kirby said the U.S. and its allies remain committed to ongoing diplomatic efforts, including talks on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, which are expected to be held in Doha, Qatar, or Cairo, Egypt, on Aug. 15, and stressed that progress must be made in the negotiations despite the unstable situation in the region. Referring to Hamas’ latest statement on the talks on Aug. 15, Kirby said, “We believe that everyone should be there on Thursday and see if we can finish this.” Kirby said that any developments this week could affect these talks, but that the U.S. is determined to seek a solution.
HANİYE ASSASSINATION ESCALATED TENSIONS
Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on July 31. Iran and Hamas stated that Israel was behind the attack, and Tehran stated that it would respond to the Tel Aviv administration.
