According to The Nature Conservation Society Swedes eat large amounts of cheese. A Swede eats an average of 18 to 19 kilos of cheese each year. Swedes’ large consumption of cheese makes Sweden one of the countries where hard cheese is eaten the most in the whole world.

Swedes’ consumption of cheese has increased by over 30 percent in the last 30 years, writes The Nature Conservation Society.
There are many different types of cheese including, cream cheese, hard cheese, processed cheese, soft cheese, mold cheese and putty cheese.

The long-awaited cheese is coming to Sweden
Now a new long-awaited cheese is coming to Sweden. But the cheese causes customers to rage, as many believe it tastes bad.
The cheese will be available to buy in selected grocery stores from week 37.
The cheese in question is the vegan version of Mini Babybel, which is a semi-hard cheese. The vegan version is completely plant-based and could be tasted already during the Way Out West festival in Gothenburg.
Baby bell is sold in more than 50 countries worldwide and is a popular cheese. It was launched as early as 1952 in France.

Customers rave about the vegan cheese
The cheese has been discussed wildly in a forum for vegetarians and vegans on Facebook and many are outraged that it tastes bad, saying that cheese that is vegan often tastes bad.
“Unfortunately, it’s not very good.”, wrote one in the comment field and several others agree.
“Unfortunately again coconut oil based…..patiently waiting for vegan cheese with reasonable nutritional content.”.
“Just tested this in Germany. Unfortunately it tastes like plastic and disappointment.”.
“They are not tasty at all. Tastes like a piece of margarine”.
“Ate it in London two years ago and didn’t like it at all.”.

Divided opinions about the cheese
But there are also those who are happy that the plant-based variant is coming to Sweden. They write that it is good and are excited about the news.
“FINALLY a good plant-based cheese. Tasted just like I remember babybell. Will come out to ICA stores v.37 if I remember correctly!”.
