The alarm came at 10:01 on Monday and the property is said to have started burning after the explosion. According to the rescue service, four people were involved in the incident.
– Police are on their way to the scene to assist the emergency services. Initially no serious injuries, says police spokesperson Angelica Israelsson Silfver.
Stop in traffic
The rescue service is on site with resources from Mariannelund, Hjältevad, Eksjö, Vimmerby and Rumskulla together with ambulance and police. The incident has occurred in direct proximity to both highway 40 and the railway, whereupon highway 40 and the railway have been closed during the course of the work.
– There is a total standstill on national highway 40 outside Mariannelund. Road users are asked to find other driving routes, says Angelica Silver.
Gas leak
According to the police, it is a villa that has caught fire and there is heavy smoke.
– There has been information that some type of gas leak could be behind the explosion and the fire in the villa.
