The military activity in the Mediterranean has suddenly become a hot topic. According to the news in the Havargi newspaper published in the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC), British Royal Navy amphibious operation ships have approached the coast of Southern Cyprus.
MORE THAN 1000 COMMANDO ARE WAITING
In the same news, it was claimed that more than 1,000 commandos were on standby at the British airport in Akrotiri, which has sovereign base status in Southern Cyprus.
In the Havargi newspaper’s news titled “The density of foreign military forces in Cyprus is increasing”, the plural form was used for the British amphibious assault ships that arrived off the coast of Southern Cyprus, but no information was given about their numbers.
Some websites broadcasting in Southern Cyprus also stated that they had confirmed the news from military sources.
US SHIP ALSO IN THE REGION
On Friday, the US Navy’s amphibious assault ship USS Wasp anchored in the Limassol Port of the Greek Cypriot Administration.
While the US warship that came to Limassol as part of the “port visits” was protested by members of opposition parties and some activists, the Greek Cypriot Administration Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letimbiotis claimed that the recent ship and plane movements in his country were part of the island’s humanitarian role in light of the developments in the region.
SUBMARINE SEEN DURING CANOE RIDE
According to the news in the TRNC press, a submarine of unknown origin was seen by a person who went canoeing in the sea off the coast of Limassol.
