USA tops medal table again wild twist with China

The United States has now topped the medal table in four consecutive Summer Olympics. The best Nordic country was Sweden.

The penultimate medals for Paris have now been awarded. In the women’s basketball final between the USA and France, the USA was ultimately better 67–66.

The match in question also decided the victory in the medal table. Before the match, China had 40 gold medals to the USA’s 39, but with the win, the USA climbed to the top of the medal table.

So there were the same number of gold medals (40), but the USA beat China with their silver medals. The United States has 126 medals: 40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze. China has 91 medals: 40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze.

The United States has now topped the medal table in four consecutive Games. The last time another country won was China in 2008 at their home games in Beijing.

In four years, the USA’s home games in Los Angeles will arrive. It is the country’s first summer home Olympics since the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Third in the medal table was Japan, whose athletes won 20 gold and 45 medals.

If you only look at the number of medals, the host France was the fourth best with a whopping 64 medals. The country accumulated 16 gold medals.

The best of the Nordic countries was Sweden, which achieved 11 medals and was 16th overall. Sweden lost from the previous summer games with two medals.

The swimmer won the gold medals Sarah Sjostrom twice (50 m & 100 m freestyle) Armand Duplantis who took a historic Olympic victory in pole vaulting and beach volleyball David Ohman and Jonathan Hellwig.

Denmark got nine and Norway eight. Finland was completely without medals.
