On One Piece Day, Eiichiro Oda’s manga is traditionally celebrated. On the occasion of the anniversary, it was already clear in advance that there would be some announcements about the franchise. In a trailer, Netflix and Wit Studio revealed for the first time what the remake of One Piece will look like.
What kind of series will this be? The remake, which will be called The One Piece, is a shorter summary of the events that take place in the original anime. Since the anime series now has over 1,000 episodes, it is difficult for newcomers to get into the series.
That’s why The One Piece is supposed to shorten the most important events to the essentials. It is not yet clear how many episodes the anime will have. But we can expect to save a lot of time if we want to watch One Piece from the beginning.
What does The One Piece look like? The team now showed some pictures from the series. Instead of the old 4:3 ratio, the images are adapted to modern screens with the 16:9 format.
Eiichiro Oda wanted the team to not just copy the manga. Instead, they should develop their own style. The video shows that they have achieved this. The anime has its own drawing style, which is more reminiscent of a children’s book than the original.

How long should it run? The series will initially only include the East Blue Saga. The series will end at the point where the Straw Hat Pirates leave Logue Town. At that point, Luffy, Nami, Usopp, Sanji and Zoro are in the crew.
But if the series is well received by the audience, more episodes are planned, says Masashi Koizuka, the director of the remake. He plans to complete the series. But that depends on how much the audience likes the series.
Where and when can I watch the remake? The One Piece will be shown exclusively on Netflix. Unfortunately, we still don’t know when exactly that will happen. It is unlikely that the remake will be released in 2024. It would be more conceivable that The One Piece will not be released until 2025.
