In the northern parts of the country, the autonomous regions of Cantabria and the Basque Country have been given a red warning for severe heat on Sunday. The heat is predicted to ease from the afternoon in at least part of the country.
According to the newspaper, the country has been tormented by heat for weeks, and this is the fourth heat warning of the summer. According to preliminary data from the Carlos III Health Institute, the heat has caused a total of almost 1,400 deaths in Spain this summer.
Heat waves are believed to become more common and longer in Spain due to climate change, El Pais reports.
