Minister Uraloğlu, who previously explained why Instagram was blocked, said, “Because they have not taken the steps we wanted, especially regarding the crimes we call catalogue crimes, which have been going on for a while. What are catalogue crimes? First, they are attacks on Atatürk. Then they are betting. Gambling etc. They are crimes with sexual content. We have made many notifications about these, but seeing that they did not receive enough response, we blocked their access. After that, meetings were held and we explained our sensitivities to the other party more clearly, and we continue to do so.”

Minister Uraloğlu, in his statement yesterday, responded to a question about the recent developments on social media platforms by saying, “First of all, we do not have such a structure. Whatever they do, however they behave, we will close them. We never have such an approach. Look, we are talking about 60 million social media users here. After all, I have a world account, I mean I have an account on almost every platform. I mean, both me and our team use it, we all use it. Rather than having a prohibitive mentality, a censored mentality, we really have this approach, how can we expand it? I am saying it very clearly. But we should definitely not lose sight of this. Unfortunately, these social media platforms do not display the democratic approach that we display as a country. I am saying it very clearly. Look, now, without any notification, they can block or remove your account. They can completely block some posts. After all, this is a private company. Of course, it will have its rules and regulations, but I mean, they can do things that are against your laws when necessary. Therefore, we are in favor of continuing the activities of social media platforms. We are never in a prohibitive mentality. “If social media platforms were as liberal as we are, you really wouldn’t be asking me this question today,” he replied.
