After five years, the superhero series The Umbrella Academy has come to an end with a fourth season on Netflix. While fans had to wait two years for the six final episodes, many are now asking themselves not only Disappointment about the ending – but also about how the ending will play out. The press has so far had rather mixed feelings about the Netflix finale with Elliot Page and Tom Hopper.
The Netflix finale of The Umbrella Academy Season 4 loses focus, according to the press
For example, Lauren Thoman of The Wrap writes that the finale is difficult to reconcile with what The Umbrella Academy has shown in the previous three seasons:
If you watch the series for the characters and hope that the final season will provide a satisfying conclusion to this wild ride of the last five years, it’s hard to reconcile the series finale with the journey we took to get there. The ending is hard to justify with everything that came before it. And if we could do it all again, maybe we would ask ourselves a little earlier in the process, what is the point of it all?
Therese Lacson from Collider also thinks that the series loses its focus in the final season:
If Season 4 proves anything, it is that everything collapses, when the focus shifts away from the Hargreeves.
For Jen Lennon of AV Club, however, the ending could have been a bit crazier:
For a series that thrives in chaos, the ending was disappointingly clean.

“Totally crazy enthusiasm”: Others celebrate the Umbrella Academy finale
However, there are positive comments about the Umbrella Academy finale, such as from Ed Power of the Daily Telegraph. Season 4 also shows the craziness of the series and its characters, which has been a strength from the beginning:
All these balls are juggled with totally crazy enthusiasm. The tone can be all over the place: comedic one moment, bleak the next. Yet The Umbrella Academy shows genuine affection for its lovable weirdos.
Emily Garbutt of Total Film is ultimately diplomatic and can see the good and bad sides of the finale:
There are far too many storylines that seem to have been forgotten, dismissed, or left by the wayside to carry us through the emotional weight of the previous seasons. But, As with any good family gathering, most frustrations can be overlooked.
Currently, the fourth season of Umbrella Academy has a score of 54 percent from 13 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. You can now form your own opinion on Netflix, where the final six episodes of the superhero series are streaming.
