Dark Souls with dance moves – New game on Steam lets you beat bosses with Brazilian martial arts

There are plenty of small indie Soulslikes on Steam, but the action RPG Deathbound stands out for one thing: It offers a fighting style that we haven’t seen in other representatives of the genre.

What kind of game is this? Deathbound is an action RPG from Brazilian developer Trialforge Studio that takes you into a brutal world of Ziêminal – a world where past and future literally collide.

At the core of the game are merciless battles in which you can seamlessly switch between different fighters with special abilities. You recruit these warriors from the ranks of defeated enemies whose essences you have absorbed.

Deathbound will be released on August 8, 2024 for PC on Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG, as well as for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. We show you the official release trailer here:

How are players reacting to Deathbound? As of August 9, 2024, the game has only 18 reviews on Steam, 66 percent of which are positive. The release trailer published on YouTube hasn’t made much of a splash either – after almost 24 hours, it has just 74 likes.

Some Steam players criticize stiff animations and unreliable character hitboxes, although the extent of this is difficult to gauge with only four negative reviews overall. Others praise the game for its fluid gameplay, unique designs, and story.

The existence of a character who is a master of capoeira – a mix of martial arts and dance that originated in Brazil – is also a source of joy. One user writes on YouTube: “Here I am, trying out a Souls game (not my style) just because it has capoeira.” Another adds: “That’s really cool. Having capoeira in Soulslike! AWESOME!”

“How important are high player numbers?”: This question was recently asked by the Palworld community manager to an X-user who spoke of a “time of meme games”. The reason for this statement is the current player numbers of Palworld and Helldivers 2, which have dropped sharply since release.
