The chief of staff of the Ukrainian president says that the next peace meeting organized by the Ukrainian administration should not be treated as the start of peace negotiations with Russia.

President to Volodymyr Zelensky undersecretary Andri Jermak told about it in an interview published by Evropeiska Pravda news media on Thursday.

Jermak says that Ukraine wants to prepare a concrete plan to achieve peace, which will be delivered to Russia before the start of peace negotiations.

The goal of the second peace meeting is to agree on a peace plan together with the parties participating in the meeting.

– It is possible that the second peace meeting will be attended by a representative of Russia, to whom this plan will be given to forward, Jermak said.

The participants of the first peace meeting held in Switzerland in June agreed on actions related to food security, humanitarian problems and energy, among other things.

In the interview, Jermak added that the first meeting also had topics that required more negotiation to reach a common position. These topics included, for example, the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine and the restoration of borders after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

According to Jermak, Ukraine wants things to move forward quickly, although the realization of the second peace conference in 2024 is not certain.

– We want this to happen, but there are conditions without which the second meeting cannot take place, Jermak said, referring to the drafting of a joint peace plan.

Russia did not participate in the June peace meeting and considered it insignificant, as the country’s administration did not participate in the meeting.
