“After an internal investigation, we have decided to dismiss the two imams from their duties. They will not hold any Friday sermons or lead any prayers for the time being,” the mosque writes in the press release.
The mosque further writes that the decision about the prayer was “theologically correct, but inappropriate given his status”.
Several politicians, including Social Affairs Minister Jacob Forssmed (KD) have reacted to the incident.
“Recently, we were able to take part in extremely disturbing information about a prayer in Gothenburg’s mosque. Extremism has no place in religious environments,” writes Forssmed X.
