Expanded cooperation between Swedish and Danish police • Swedish children are recruited via social media
Danish police in Sweden and Swedish police in Denmark.
Cooperation between the countries is now being further expanded.
– They must work together with us in terms of situational images and faster reaction chains in the proactive work, says Stefan Sintéus, head of command in the work against organized crime in Police Region South, in a press release.
Yesterday, a 17-year-old was arrested for having shot an 18-year-old Danish boy outside a jewelry store in Copenhagen. On Wednesday last week, a 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of shooting and on the same day another 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of having shot a man in the leg in Kolding in Jutland.
According to the Danish police, Swedish so-called child soldiers are being recruited via social media to commit serious crimes up to and including murder with promises of payment.
“It’s absolutely absurd”
– There is no doubt that the events of the last few days and weeks are something we take very seriously. We do not want the condition that prevails in Sweden here in Denmark. It is completely absurd, says Peter Hummelgaard (S), Minister of Justice Denmark.
Yesterday, a Swedish man and a woman, both aged 25, were also arrested by Swedish police as they fled from Denmark over the Öresund Bridge – suspected of having attacked a convenience store in Copenhagen with some form of explosive device earlier in the day.
The Swedish police have previously been cooperating with the Danish police to put an end to cross-border crime.
Does not exclude border controls
And now Danish police are to be stationed permanently in Malmö and Swedish police in Copenhagen.
– We see that crime is developing all the time and we also have to develop all the time. We see this as a possible positive way forward in order to fight back against serious crime, says Nils Norling, spokesperson for police region South.
And the Danish Minister of Justice does not rule out the possibility of introducing border controls.
– If, due to the current situation, the police need to use new methods for a shorter or longer period, I believe that we should be open to that. Because the most important thing right now is to put an end to the conflict that is unfolding. And also put a stop to Swedish child soldiers being used for missions in Denmark, says Peter Hummelgaard.
