The new enemy in WoW is too hot, because everyone is now “simping” Xal’atath

The World of Warcraft community is celebrating the antagonist of the new expansion. Everyone seems to be in love with Xal’atath.

With The War Within, Blizzard seems to have hit the nail on the head when it comes to creating an interesting antagonist. Xal’atath is very popular and is widely discussed in the official forums, on Reddit, and pretty much every other platform with WoW content.

Unlike enemies like the Dungeon Master, which Blizzard more or less “pulled out of the hat” with Shadowlands, Xal’atath was built up slowly over the course of several expansions.

  • During Legion, she was the artifact weapon of the Shadow Priests and repeatedly haunted them with little spells and supposed wisdom before she was sacrificed at the end of Legion.
  • With “Battle for Azeroth,” the dagger reappeared and played a central role in the story of the destruction of N’Zoth. Xal’atath was also freed from the dagger and she took on the physical form we know of her today.
  • In Dragonflight, Xal’atath appears as an ally of the Iridikron incarnation before she became the focus of the story with the pre-patch 11.0.
  • If you are interested in more details about Xal’atath, we have explained its full story here.

Xal’atath has seduced the WoW community

But how could it be otherwise: Ever since Blizzard unveiled her new design for The War Within and she was seen with a mischievous smile, the community has completely fallen for Xal’atath. There are constant posts on Reddit, lots of cosplay and fan art (and some of it is not suitable for young people!) and the opinion seems to be: Xal’atath can destroy the world. If that’s what she wants, then that’s fine.

The latest cinematic has only added to her popularity. In “Threads of Fate” she is shown several times in close-up and extremely imposing. No wonder that this provokes posts on the WoW subreddit saying: “She can have all of Azeroth. She can have the whole planet and the soul too.”

The fact that Xal’atath appears to represent a dark seduction in more ways than one not only fits wonderfully with her story, but also well with the character that Blizzard wants to portray. After all, her whisperings during Legion always had a slightly tantalizing, seductive undertone – which was also picked up again in the latest PR campaign with some streamers.

It seems as though Blizzard has hit the nerve of the WoW community with Xal’atath and created an enemy that is interesting and exciting – regardless of whether it is her appearance or the backstory. Therefore, many hope that Xal’atath will last a little longer and not meet her end in “The War Within”. Freakertwig says:

Honestly, I think the story would be really boring if we just beat her like a normal villain. I think she has to win so that [Midnight] somehow of interest or consequence. It would be even better if we could actually switch to their side.

On the other hand, we know since Sylvanas that World of Warcraft players simply have a soft spot for blue-skinned, possessed elf corpses. Some things never change – not even after 10 expansions. So it’s no wonder that many are currently leveling their characters in a hurry so that they can soon be with their Knaifu Waifu.
