It was at lunchtime on August 6 that the police, emergency services and ambulance responded to a drowning alarm just outside central Luleå.
When the police patrol arrived at the scene, a dead person was found, but information was scarce. The case still leaves the police confused, but they confirm that it is a male person.
– We are doing what we can to establish the identity. A forensic autopsy will be carried out in Umeå and when their preliminary report arrives we will know more, says preliminary investigation leader Erik Lampinen.
Uncertainty about the man’s age
According to the department that handles missing persons, the man’s description does not match anyone who is currently reported missing. Nor has anyone contacted the police since the person was found.
How long the man was in the water and what age it is is also shrouded in obscurity.
– But we don’t think it’s a very old or very young person, says Erik Lampinen and announces that the police do not suspect any crime in connection with the man’s death.
