Armand Duplantis has won Olympic gold and broken world records.
On Tuesday evening, he received his gold medal from the giant Sergej Bubka.
Now “Mondo” reveals what the pole vault legend actually told him.
Everyone had been looking forward to it Armand Duplantis and what he could accomplish in the pole vault final before the Paris Olympics. One of athletics’ biggest shining stars did not disappoint either and put on a sensational display on Monday evening.
Duplantis gold
First, the 24-year-old playfully jumped home the Olympic gold without tearing once and flying high, high over the bar with every jump. Then “Mondo” gave all 80,000 spectators in place in the Stade de France exactly what they came to see.

The Swedish world star cleared the world record of 6.25 meters in his third and final jump. Then he sent the whole arena into total ecstasy.
Bubka’s gesture
Since then, Duplantis has truly celebrated his feat and been acclaimed worldwide. On Tuesday night, he was back in the arena of records again to receive his much-deserved gold medal.

The pole vaulting dominant was then greeted by a huge cheer when he took his place at the top of the podium and, fittingly enough, it was Sergey Bubka who awarded the gold medal. The giant from Ukraine won six straight World Cup golds and broke 35 world records during his active time as a pole vaulter.
– It was special. What to say? I think it sinks in a little more when you get the medal. But I’m happy and just trying to take in the moment and the whole thing, says Duplantis with a hoarse voice to Expressen.
– Everything was absolutely fantastic, everything became more of a family thing. There have never been so many of us.

Bubka embraced the young Swede who is well on his way to erasing his name from the history books and said a few well-chosen words. Now Duplantis reveals what the icon said to him during the medal ceremony.
– He just congratulated me, said I did well and jumped high, he tells the evening newspaper and then describes his newly won Olympic gold.
– It is heavy and very nice. It’s as fat as it gets.
