An anime highlight from 2024 gets a second season, announces release date with new trailer

One of the highlights of the 2024 spring season in the anime sector was the anime Kaiju No. 8. After the first season ended a few weeks ago, the question remained whether there would be a sequel. With a new trailer, the makers have now announced that a second season is on the way – and when it will be released.

What kind of trailer is this? The trailer mainly shows scenes in which important battles from the first season take place. We see several Kaijus that the protagonists had to fight against. Unfortunately, there are no new scenes from season 2 to see.

The visuals look like footage shot on VHS, creating a nostalgic aesthetic that sets the tone for the upcoming season.

When will season 2 be released? The trailer reveals that Kaiju No. 8 will be continued in 2025. We probably won’t find out exactly when for several months. The fact that there is a sequel is probably due to the huge success of the anime.

Several projects for Kaiju No. 8 on the way

What else is coming? If you enjoyed the Kaiju No. 8 anime, there are plenty of other projects to look forward to in the future.

  • There will be a special episode called Hoshina’s Day-Off. Soshiro Hoshina is the vice captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force. His handling of close combat weapons is excellent. The episode is scheduled to be released in Japanese theaters sometime in 2025 (via MyAnimeList).
  • In Japan, a new spin-off called Kaiju No. 8 Relax was launched on June 4, 2024 (via ANN). It will still be some time before the manga is released here.
  • Kaiju No. 8: B-Side is another spin-off that has been around since January 5, 2024 and has now been completed. So far, an English-language release has been announced for Q2 2025 (via VIZ Media). A German-language version may follow.
  • There is also a light novel about Kaiju No. 8 called Exclusive on the Third Division, which will also initially be published in English and will be released in Q4 2024 (via ANN).
  • As if that wasn’t enough, a video game is also in the works. The game, simply called Kaiju No. 8: The Game, was announced in June 2024 and is scheduled to be released for mobile and Steam (via kj8-thegame).

    • What is Kaiju No. 8 about? Japan is being attacked by gigantic monsters, the so-called Kaiju. An elite military unit is responsible for destroying the monsters. Childhood friends Kafka and Mina swear to one day join the elite unit. Mina makes it, but Kafka fails the entrance exam several times and becomes a crime scene cleaner.

    But one fateful day he encounters a parasite that flies into his mouth. Kafka is then able to transform himself into a Kaiju and tries again to be accepted into the elite team.
